Mystery of Unakoti | The secret of Unakoti
In fact, there is one such place, about 145 km from Agartala, the capital of Tripura, which is known as Unakoti. It is said that there are a total of 99 lakh 99 thousand 999 stone idols here, whose secrets have not been solved to date.
Like- who made these idols, when and why they were made, and most importantly why only one less in a crore? Although many stories are prevalent behind this, which are surprising.
Meaning Of Unakoti
Because of these mysterious idols, this place has got its name Unakoti, which means one less in a crore. This place is considered one of the biggest mysteries of Northeast India. For many years no one knew about this place. Although still very few people know about it.
Why is Unakoti Mysterious?
Unakoti is called a place full of mysteries because there is a hilly area that is full of dense forests and marshy areas.
Now, how would lakhs of idols have been built in the middle of the forest, because it would have taken years and earlier no one lived around this area? It has been a subject of research for a long time.
Mythology related to Unakoti
Many mythological stories are very popular here about the idols of Hindu gods and goddesses carved on stones and cut out of stones.
Story of Lord Shiva and One Crore Gods and Goddesses
It is believed that once one crore gods and goddesses including Lord Shiva were going somewhere. Due to the onset of night, the rest of the gods and goddesses asked Lord Shiva to stop at Unakoti and take a rest.
Shivji agreed, but at the same time, he also said that everyone would have to leave this place before sunrise. But at the time of sunrise only Lord Shiva could wake up, all the other gods and goddesses were sleeping.
Seeing this, Lord Shiva got angry and cursed everyone to turn them into stone. That is why there are 99 lakh 99 thousand 999 idols here, that is, one less than one crore (except Lord Shiva).
Story of Craftsman and Lord Shiva
Another story is in vogue regarding the making of these idols. It is said that there was a craftsman named Kalu, who wanted to go to Mount Kailash with Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati, but it was not possible.
However, due to the stubbornness of the craftsman, Lord Shiva told him that if he made one crore of idols of gods and goddesses in one night, he would take them with him to Kailash.
On hearing this, the craftsman got busy with his work and started making idols one by one. He made idols all night, but when counted in the morning, it was found that there was one idol less. Because of this Lord Shiva did not take that craftsman with him. It is believed that for this reason, the place got its name ‘Unakoti’.
